What is the rate for recording time?
At Holy Fang, we believe that exquisite recording should be affordable to talented artists from all walks of life. We offer standard commercial lockout rates for labels and production houses. However, staying true to our mission, we also offer sliding-scale packages for independent artists. Please get in touch with us about your project, and we will work on a tailor-made plan that works for you!
Can Holy Fang be used by outside engineers?
Yes! We welcome freelance engineers and producers. To ensure the safety of our vintage console, tape machines and other equipment, we require a brief technical orientation with our house tech for first-time visitors, or the booking of a house assistant.
Is a studio assistant included in the rate
Yes. All commercial bookings include a house assistant to help with setup, patching and general studio flow. For complex sessions requiring a full-time operator/Pro Tools op, we can provide a dedicated engineer for an additional fee.
How long does it take to record an album or EP?
This question is practically impossible to answer - some artists record an entire album live in the studio in one day, where other artists spend years tinkering with one song. And then there’s the entire range in between. This is part of why we care so much about building individualistic, artist friendly session plans, and all of this is extensively communicated over in our pre-production conversations.
Do you work on all different kinds of music?
We love all styles of music at Holy Fang, as long as the work is a sincere expression of the individuality of the artist. It is our greatest pleasure to help you hone and develop your style, and your own unique artistic voice.
Do you offer mixing and mastering services?
We offer full mixing and mastering services using our high-end analog chain. While we happily facilitate transfers to specialized mastering houses if preferred, our in-house mastering provides a competitive, radio-ready finish for many of our artists.
How do I get my files at the end of the session?
Please bring a dedicated USB 3.0 or SSD hard drive for your session data. We also have high-speed Verizon Fios for cloud backups, but we strongly recommend physical backups for large multitrack sessions.
How many people can the studio accommodate?
The studio has five bedrooms, and can comfortably sleep between 5 and 15 people. The recording space can fit anything from power duos to larger chamber ensembles.
How does food and catering work during our stay?
We have a fully equipped kitchen for self-catering. We can also provide a list of recommended local restaurants and grocery stores. For larger sessions, we can help arrange local catering services upon request.
Is the studio wheelchair accessible?
The main recording spaces and some of the lodging are on the ground floor, but please contact us regarding specific accessibility needs for the residential quarters.
How far in advance do I need to book the studio?
Usually we are booked a month or two in advance, although dates do open up. Never be shy about reaching out as we always do our best to accommodate everyone, but as a general rule, the earlier the better!
Can I bring my own equipment to your studio? Can I use yours?
Yes to both! We always encourage artists to bring the instruments they are most comfortable playing, as that often leads to a more comfortable performance. But our extensive backline of world-class instruments is always available for use on sessions.
Is the piano tuned regularly?
Our grand piano is kept in excellent playing condition and professionally maintained monthly. If your session requires an additional fresh concert-level tuning, we can arrange for our piano technician to visit prior to your arrival (tuning fee applies).
Can I bring guests or additional musicians?
We believe the more the merrier at Holy Fang! We just ask that you communicate who will be coming in advance, so we can prepare accordingly.
Can you live track multiple musicians at Holy Fang?
Absolutely. Live tracking is our specialty. With our 32-channel Neotek console, extensive mic locker, exquisite outboard collection and acoustically designed rooms, we can comfortably capture full bands, including rhythm sections, scratch or final vocals, and anything else you can imagine, simultaneously with perfect isolation.
Are there any additional costs or hidden fees?
NO. What you are promised is what you get.
What is your deposit/cancellation policy?
When booking a project, it is Holy Fang’s policy to request a nonrefundable 50% deposit to confirm the booking. While the deposit is not refundable, booked dates can be moved with no penalty if communication is made at least 14 days in advance.
Can we record on your tape reels?
Yes, Holy Fang always has a few “beater” 2” tape reels around that get recorded over and over, and you’re welcome to make use of them. Of course, if your goal is perfect fidelity and preservation of your tapes, we recommend buying and using your own!
